Maybe LinkedIn could have been a great professional network once. At least that is how I understood it 10 years ago or so, a social network like Facebook or Instagram but for your professional endeavors only. I don’t know the specifics of what happened, but I found myself growing increasingly frustrated with it over the years. Back then I invested a lot of time and energy in it, even paying for premium features at one point, but it never really paid off for me. It never felt like there was the level of engagement and community that social media achieved, even though at one point I thought that’s where it was headed. Best case scenario, the only professional opportunities I got were for entry-level, low-paying jobs in my industry that I had no interest in. Worst case, lots and lots of spam and people requesting to connect with me for no discernible reason.
