Seriously, stop comparing yourself to Elon Musk.
For those of us trying to make a living while working on our passions, the landscape of productivity advice can be intimidating, as it seems to only offer two options: either extreme, no excuses relentless discipline, or hopelessly messy and unstructured human. The media elevates the morning routines of successful CEOs, and influencers show us what they eat and do in a day. We seem to be very curious about how other people — particularly people we admire — live their daily lives.
My own struggles with discipline, perfectionism and productivity have led me to conclude that your routines are very personal and determined by your specific circumstances and goals. Therefore, for me, reading about what Robin Arzon’s daily routine or how Gary Vee starts his day is of very little value. I don’t find it inspirational (more like anxiety-inducing), and it doesn’t motivate me to “change my life”. Ultimately, those people’s journeys are very different from mine. They have other resources, teams of people working for them, and the ability to not have to worry about paying next month’s rent.
So, if you’re trying to become the next overnight millionaire or influencer, you shouldn’t be reading this article. The productivity advice I am about to share is for working class people or entrepreneurial freelancers…
